Lovedrug
Lovedrug
Ohio alternative-rock outfit Lovedrug originated with lead singer Michael Shepard's attempt to give up music for film, including a stint of film school in NYC, before his first "love" of music "dragged" him back (hence the tongue-in-cheek band name). Yet the band's new single and album, recorded in Lovedrug's adoptive home of Nashville, oddly realize both interests. On the one hand, the recordings showcase indie songs with sufficient appeal to subvert the mainstream, a true rock band recording live-to-analog. On the other hand, the new music video for Dinosaur was written and directed by Shepard. Ah, the ying and yang of it all!

Lovedrug first drew national attention with the highly acclaimed Pretend You're Alive lp in 2004, the fastest selling debut in (then label) The Militia Group's history. The follow-up Everything Starts Where It Ends was also well received, selling 30k albums in several months on the back of Japanese and North American touring in 2007, and gaining traction at radio & MTV for Ghost By Your Side and Happy Apple Poison.

After a brief interlude, founder Shepard reformed the group to record Lovedrug's 3rd album, working with the iconic Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mew) to produce a cathartic homage to grunge. Though release of The Sucker Punch Show coincided with the financial collapse of the Militia Group in North America, the album garnered favorable attention upon release in Europe in June 2009, landing at #6 on the coveted Visions summer chart, and gaining broad radio play for the single Only One around club dates and festival appearances with Nine Inch Nails, Silversun Pickups, and others.

Following the European summer tour, Lovedrug committed to writing for all of 2010, pausing only to play SXSW and two headlining runs to test-drive the new material, releasing the fan-only EP-PART I+II+III trilogy along the way. In November, the band announced the I AM LOVEDRUG campaign in partnership with PledgeMusic to fund album #4 and, after reaching their goal over the holiday, Spring 2011 saw the band utilize producer Paul Moak's Nashville studio to track the entire new album live to 2" tape. Split-single Pink Champagne/Dinosaur debuted in Fall 2011, offering the first taste of the full-length titled Wild Blood, out March 6, 2012.
